Who is an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) and what is their role?

Whilst you are in care you will meet many professionals who's job is to keep you happy and well.

You will also have review meetings with someone who is called an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO), they should see you on your own as well as at the meeting and their job is to listen to you and to make sure your care plan is working for you.

The Independent Reviewing Officer leads the review meeting to discuss with you your progress in care, this will help to decide your long term plan. Sometimes, young people lead these meetings as well, if they want to.
